McBride comes to  Barga for St. Christopher Golden
The writer is author of the book “Miracle at St. Anna”
The writer James McBride, author of the book “Miracle at St. Anna” from which the film of the same name was taken by Spike Lee, has agreed to come to Barga to receive the golden medal of St Christopher.  The award, set up by the Mayor Umberto Sereni to recognise all those who have made Barga famous throughout the world, will be awarded to McBride when he next visits.
The contribution of McBride in letting the world know the story of the African-American Buffalo Division and the events of 26 December 1944 in Sommocolonia has been fundamental.
The story that inspired the American writer whose book was published in 2000 originated in Barga and Sommoclonia.  McBride learned about the history of Buffalo Soldier in Barga, the division made up solely of African Americans, and their importance and sacrifice in defence of freedom.
The writer had already been to Barga to visit the Rocca alla Pace at Sommocolonia where the 92ªdivisione Buffalo fought, a regiment which his uncle had joined,  McBride had thus already faced the issue of the Resistance in his research and his interest in the history of Sant’Anna had been inspired by his meeting with Henry Tognarelli, son of a partisan who fought with Manrico Ducci (Pippo).
“This – said Mayor Sereni – is only the beginning of a series of events leading up to the anniversary of the battle. On December 26, we will inaugurate the new Document Centre on the battle which Vittorio Biondi is working on, collecting archive documents and artifacts. We will then print a new edition of the book edited by Biondi dedicated to this tragic event. Barga will name the path to Sommocolonia after the Buffalo soldiers, to show our gratitude for their sacrifice. The artist Michele Lucchese Lovi is also working to produce  work, dedicated to Sommocolonia made using a special technique of collage. ”
On the occasion of the anniversary, premiere, there will also be a screening of the documentary “Inside Buffalo” by Fred Kuwornu.By chance, on Wednesday night, the episode of the programme by  Minoli “We are History” on Rai 2, was dedicated to the massacre of Sant’Anna di Stazzema and Lee’s film, and in an interview with the writer McBride an easily recognisable poster of Barga could be clearly seen behind him-
